Capt’n Dave’s Seafood Market

October 28, 2014
Hi Everyone!!

I hope everyone has been enjoying this beautiful weather we have been having lately. It’s a perfect time to cook outside on the grill and hang with the family or your friends.

I finally got the opportunity this weekend after getting all my parts replaced in my grill which has been a fiasco due to backorders after backorders for all my parts. But, now that’s it working again, I was able to have two wonderful meals on the grill this weekend. Boy have I missed my grill.

If anyone is not familiar with all the items we stock, we suggest coming in to the store and let us go over whatever you might be looking for. We have a large wall display showing all the items we stock on a daily basis. We also add to the board as we bring in new items. So, if there is something you are having a hard time finding, please let us know, I will be more than happy to locate your product and we can add it to our inventory.

If it’s an unfamiliar product or our suppliers tell us that there is no request for it, this will be something we have no control of. But I will do everything I can to bring it in for you.

Here is an example of Specialty fish that is available but not well known to the average customer:

Whole Brazino( origin: Greece) whole:10.99 lb ,fillets:19.99 lb

Barramundi  fillets:(Indonesia, farmed raised) 20.99 lb

We can get these fish but if our customers don’t want to try any, we take a loss on these items.

That’s why we special order fish for our customers when it’s not a popular fish.

These fish are absolutely wonderful in flavor but most people haven’t even heard of the fish.

If anyone wants either one of the two that I have mentioned, please call me and let me know.

This weekend, I received my first new shipment of Copper River Sockeye that our suppliers in Alaska were able to secure for us after the season ended recently. Each fillet has the skin on and bone out and is vacuumed sealed for storing and for protection. We will have fillets thawed in our display and we will always have them in our freezer for you to take home just as we have in the past.

We also have a supplier that is able to bring in Wild Northern Canadian King Salmon. We have it available fresh and also we will be bringing in enough to freeze so we have it when the fresh season ends. Each fillet comes in fresh and vacuumed sealed. You can pick it up frozen or you can select it out of our seafood display.

I am posting most of our products and prices on my web page which you can go directly to by clicking the site below and this also helps in keeping the newsletter shorter.

If you are looking for snacks or hors d’ oeuvre’s for the games this weekend, we always have freshly cooked 16/20 count Peeled and deveined cocktail shrimp(slightly seasoned). We also have Cajun Crab Dip(w/real crab meat) which everyone thoroughly enjoys and we also have Seafood Gumbo, Crawfish Etoufee, and Shrimp Creole that many of our customers love. These come in 30 oz tubs or 4 lb trays. And if you really want a treat, you have to try out my special Hot Smoked Alaskan Sockeye.

We also have Crawfish boudin, Pork and rice boudin, Aligator sausage, Andouille sausage, Crawfish sausage, Hot Louisiana sausage for a great half time treat during the game.

When I find new seafood items that I know my customers will enjoy, I will always keep you informed. The list of all or most of all our items that we stock has become very lengthy and it is much easier viewing all of it on the web page. I will add the new items to our seafood list as we are sure we will keep them in stock. So, please visit the web site when you need to see a full list of our products.

**New items added to our list:

Breaded Gulf Oysters: 8.99 lb (approx 18-25 per lb)(cornmeal and flour)

Southern Style Hand breaded Catfish fillets: 8.49 lb(4 oz fillets w/cornmeal)

Breaded 13-15 per pound shrimp: 11.99 lb

Halibut cheeks: 20.00 a lb. (Limited quantities) Approx 1 lb packages.

Louisiana Hot Sausage: 7.99 lb (1 lb pkg)
With the Halibut season coming to an end around November 15th, I recently secured enough Halibut after the season closes so we have enough Halibut to keep us stocked for two to three months. Prices have gone sky high on Halibut over the past couple of months and the current cost in Dallas from all the suppliers is more than what I sell it to my customers. This is why I do the things I do to keep the cost down as much as I can because the suppliers do not look at it this way.

I know many customers price check when you start seeing seafood prices climbing. As most of my customers know, I will bend over backwards to secure special items such as Sockeye, King Salmon, Halibut and Sea bass as long as I can purchase these items at a cost to keep my cost down for my customers.

My goal is to keep the cost down and to continue searching and acquiring the highest quality that I can for my customers.
We have been carrying fresh oysters as long as we have been in business. Over the last couple of weeks, the heat on the coast has been effecting the shelf life on oysters in the shell. I decided to wait on bringing in more oysters in the shell until the weather starts to cool off. When the cooler weather comes in, the oysters are at there highest quality.

We always have fresh shucked oysters.

Please keep up with my newsletter to be updated every week.
We are always looking for great recipes to share with our customers so if you can send us your special recipe, I’ll be happy to post it for all of our customers to enjoy.

Every week, we are making Seafood Kabobs for our customers. If you would like us to make any special for you, just give us a call or come on in and select the seafood you want to be skewered. We have a great selection for you to choose from. It only takes a few minutes and we can have them ready by the time you come to pick them up or we can make them for you while you wait. Remember, whatever the cost is in our seafood case that you select is what you pay. No prep charges just select what you want and we price it out on how much you want on the skewer.

I hope we can make some for you.

Great for the games!
