Capt’n Dave’s Seafood Market

November 19, 2014
Hi Everyone!!

Well, it’s that time of the year again.

Holidays are right around the corner! I don’t believe it either but we need to get ourselves prepared and that’s why it’s so important to plan ahead.

At Capt’n Dave’s, we are stocking up on the most popular seafood to make sure we have everything for our customers for this special occasion.

We will also have plenty of our pre holiday party items such as our Special Seasoned Boiled Shrimp, Smoked Wild Sockeye Salmon, Cajun Crab Dip, Smoked oysters, Seafood Gumbo, Crawfish Etouffee, Shrimp Creole and many other items that will work for appetizers.

If you’re making your own Gumbo from scratch, we have Large Cleaned Gumbo Crabs, shucked oysters, Andouille sausage, Crab meat and even the Roux if you don’t have time to make it.

We also have Clam Chowder in family size containers, we carry clams in the shell and also already shucked. On our shelves, we also stock large containers of Clam Juice and chopped sea clams.

We will be open on Thanksgiving Eve until 6:00 P.M.

We ask that everyone that can reserve their orders to please call us by Tuesday to make sure we have what you will be needing.

I don’t want to disappoint anyone at the last minute on special orders but please understand that the suppliers on Wednesday will be scrambling to make sure all their deliveries are made on time. And trying to get them to make second and third trips to our store will not work on the day before a holiday. One of our largest suppliers are from Shreveport Louisiana. They deliver to us on Tuesday’s and Friday’s. So many of our specialty seafood items come from them. This means that if we don’t have what you need and you wait until Tuesday to call us, we might not be able to get what you need. So, this is my last written effort to make sure our customers call us to make sure we have what they need for Thanksgiving.

You have all weekend long to think about it and you can come in to visit or just give us a call.

The most popular seafood during the Thanksgiving holiday is shucked oysters for Oyster dressing and also oysters in the shell. We don’t want to overstock on these two items so these are the most important items that we want to make sure we have enough for every one.

So, please if at all possible, call your order in and let’s get you on the order book so we can keep a log of all your orders and also how much oysters we will need to bring in to cover everyone’s order.

Live Lobsters are also very popular and your order for Live Lobsters will have to be ordered no later than Tuesday so they can arrive on Wednesday for pick up. We stock three types of Lobster tails in a variety of sizes. Up to 1 1/4lb on the Carribean lobster tails.

Another very popular seafood item that we have a lot of request is our Wild Salmon from Alaska. We keep in stock Alaskan Sockeye and Coho Salmon. I purchased a few thousand pounds of Alaskan Sockeye and we have it released and shipped to us as needed. We are almost out of our Alaskan King salmon but we will have plenty of Canadian King Salmon. We also are stocking a Farmed raised Scottish salmon which has been a very popular substitute for those who do not want the Wild salmon.

We will have the whole cooked Dungeness crab in stock along with Smelts, Salted Mackerel, salted cod, Lutefisk, Maryland crab cakes, calamari rings, calamari tubes and tentacles, breaded clam strips and much, much more.

Our wall sign in our store has all the items we stock that is kept frozen. If you get a chance, drop by the store to see the full list of what we keep in stock on a daily basis.

Our oysters come in Gallon tubs which have 4# of oyster meat. We sell the oysters by the Gallon or by the pound. 15.99 a lb of meat and 58.00 per gallon.

And also, in the shell by the dozen and by the case.

Another very popular dish for Thanksgiving is “Whole Salmon and Whole Snapper”

So, please reserve your order!

We look forward to seeing you and please, call us with your order so we can get you on our on going list.

Thanks everyone, we appreciate all of you for helping out. It sure makes everything go smoother!

When I find new seafood items that I know my customers will enjoy, I will always keep you informed. The list of all or most of all our items that we stock has become very lengthy and it is much easier viewing all of it on the web page. I will add the new items to our seafood list as we are sure we will keep them in stock. So, please visit the web site when you need to see a full list of our products.

**New items added to our list:

Breaded Gulf Oysters: 8.99 lb (approx 18-25 per lb)(cornmeal and flour)

Southern Style Hand breaded Catfish fillets: 8.49 lb(4 oz fillets w/cornmeal)

Breaded 13-15 per pound shrimp: 11.99 lb

Halibut cheeks: 20.00 a lb. (Limited quantities) Approx 1 lb packages.

Louisiana Hot Sausage: 7.99 lb (1 lb pkg)

Halibut Season: With the Halibut season ending recently, I received a large shipment of beautiful Halibut this morning and I have secured enough Halibut after the season so we will have enough Halibut to keep us stocked for two to three months. Prices have gone sky high on Halibut over the past couple of months and the current cost in Dallas from all the suppliers is more than what I sell it to my customers. This is why I do the things I do to keep the cost down as much as I can because the suppliers do not look at it this way.

I know many customers price check when you start seeing seafood prices climbing. As most of my customers know, I will bend over backwards to secure special items such as Sockeye, King Salmon, Halibut and Sea bass as long as I can purchase these items at a cost to keep my cost down for my customers.

My goal is to keep the cost down and to continue searching and acquiring the highest quality that I can for my customers.

We are always looking for great recipes to share with our customers so if you can send us your special recipe, I’ll be happy to post it for all of our customers to enjoy.
Every week, we are making Seafood Kabobs for our customers. If you would like us to make any special for you, just give us a call or come on in and select the seafood you want to be skewered. We have a great selection for you to choose from. It only takes a few minutes and we can have them ready by the time you come to pick them up or we can make them for you while you wait. Remember, whatever the cost is in our seafood case that you select is what you pay. No prep charges just select what you want and we price it out on how much you want on the skewer.

I hope we can make some for you.
